Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of New York City's three major airports (the other two being John F Kennedy International Airport and Laguardia Airport). Newark Airport is located 16 miles (26 km) southwest of New York City's midtown Manhattan (map). Like New York's other major airports, it is operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. If you're driving, the airport is accessible by the New Jersey Turnpike (Exits 13A and 14), US Routes 1 and 9, and Interstate 78. The best way to travel between Newark Airport and Manhattan is by train to Penn Station, especially at rush hours, when traffic may delay buses and taxis. Amtrak trains to New England depart from Penn Station. More... However, if you're going from Newark Airport directly to New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal (for buses to New England) or Grand Central Terminal (for trains to southern Connecticut), you may prefer Olympia Trails's Newark Liberty Airport Express bus service, which goes right to those two destinations. Super Shuttle Manhattan (Tel 800-258-3826) runs shared minibuses from Newark Airport to all locations in Manhattan, including all hotels. For taxis, see the uniformed taxi dispatcher at the airport. To travel from Newark Airport to John F Kennedy Airport or Laguardia Airport, take a train or bus to one of the major Manhattan termini (Penn Station, Port Authority Bus Terminal or Grand Central), then take a different airport bus from there to your destination.
