Logo   History of Mystic, Connecticut
Mystic, Connecticut was an old New England seaport town well before the development of Mystic Seaport Museum.

Mystic Seaport Museum began in 1929 as the Marine Historical Association, founded by three citizens of Mystic CT who were interested in preserving aspects and objects from the town's maritime past.

The site of the museum is the former shipyard of George Greenman and Company, which built wooden clipper ships in the 19th century (hence the name Greenmanville Avenue for the street that passes the shipyard.)
