The best way to find out about current performances is to buy the Boston Globe newspaper on Thursday and check the tabloid Calendar section which has exhaustive listings for all sorts of shows, performances, exhibits, clubs, etc. in Greater Boston, with locations and phone numbers.

Another useful publication is Boston By-Week (a brochure arts schedule at information booths, hotel desks, and depots), or the tabloid "alternative" weekly newspaper, The Phoenix, which is especially good for youth and student events, movies and concerts.

When in session (fall and spring semesters), Harvard University publishes its own Gazette, available for free from the Harvard University Information Office, Holyoke Center, Harvard Square. The paper includes listings of a great many films, lectures, discussions, gallery shows, plays, and concerts taking place at Harvard, many of which are open to the general public. The other great universities in the area also publish similar calendars, yours for the asking.
