Sandwich Glass Museum, Sandwich MA
Cape Cod is made of sand, the main ingredient in glass. Small wonder that Sandwich became a fine glassware manufacturing town.

Across from the Greek Revival town hall of Sandwich MA on Cape Cod is the Sandwich Glass Museum, 129 Main Street (map). Sandwich was a major glass-producing town from 1825 to 1888, and although it specialized in the new process of pressing glass in a mold, it produced blown, cut, etched, and enameled works as well. A brilliant collection of this American glassware is on display, and dioramas, videos, and pictures show how it was made. Glassmakers' tools and other articles of Sandwich memorabilia are also part of the museum's collection. It's open daily from April through October, closed Monday and Tuesday from November through March, but closed for all of January. For opening times and admission fees, see the Sandwich Glass Museum website. Sandwich
