Sandwich MA on Cape Cod has several old houses open to the public for a fee. The best known is Hoxie House (tel 508-888-1173), a few minutes' walk southeast from Dexter's Grist Mill along Water Street (MA 130) past the Thornton W Burgess Museum. The house dates from the end of the 1600s and has been restored and furnished with articles of that period. Hoxie House is open from mid-June to September, Monday through Saturday 10 am to 5 pm, Sunday 1 to 5 pm. A combination ticket good for Hoxie House and Dexter's Grist Mill offers the best value if you'd like to see these two Sandwich landmarks from the 1600s. —by Tom Brosnahan
