Lots of simple restaurants on Water Street right in the center of town near the ferry docks.

Woods Hole has quite a number of good little restaurants arranged along Water Street in the center of town near the drawbridge.

I recommend a light lunch at the Fishmonger Cafe, 56 Water Street (tel 508-540-5376)(map).

Lunch and dinner specials are written on the blackboard and sandwiches are available any time. There are also many burgers and vegetarian main courses from which to choose, but most people go for the fish and chips and the good clam chowder.

Wine and beer are served with meals.

The atmosphere is rustic, with rough wood tables, board floors, and sea breezes wafting in through the windows. Heavily patronized by local people and visitors to the institute, the cafe may echo with Japanese or Spanish as foreign biologists discuss their countries' marine problems and opportunities.

Service is fast (there's a take-out window too), which is what you need if you have to catch a ferry.
