If you're driving, follow US 1 to Ellsworth, then ME Route 3 south to Bar Harbor. Unfortunately, there's no intercity bus or train connection to Bar Harbor

New Website Coming Soon! (NETP, 2000 pages) has been online for twenty years (since 2004), and needs a technical upgrade. The NEW NETP—up-to-date, mobile-friendly, and more useful than ever—will be online in autumn 2023.

As always, all research, writing, photography, and web design is done by one person: Tom Brosnahan. That's right: one person, not by an Artificial Intelligence chatbot, but by a real traveler.

Thanks for your patience...        —Tom

Cape Air offers flights several days per week from Boston-Logan International Airport (BOS) to Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport (BHB), 12 miles (19 km) from Bar Harbor (map).

Silver Airways offers seasonal flights between Boston-Logan to Bar Harbor from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Bangor International Airport (BGR), in Bangor ME 52 miles (84 km) northwest of Bar Harbor (map), just over an hour by rental car, handles flights by Allegiant, American, Delta, and United Airlines to/from Chicago, Detroit, New York City (LaGuardia and Newark), Philadelphia, Sanford/Orlando FL, Tampa/St Petersburg FL, and Washington DC (Reagan National).

Bus & Train

Unfortunately, neither Concord Coach Lines nor Greyhound Lines offers intercity bus service to Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, or indeed to any town or village on or near Mount Desert Island; and Amtrak's Downeaster trains go only as far as Brunswick ME, 120 miles (193 km) to the southwest. The only ways to reach Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are by car, plane, and guided tour.
