Known to skiers as one of New Hampshire's best ski areas, Cannon Mountain also has lots to offer when there's no snow, such as hiking, camping and beautiful mountain vistas.


 

 

Cannon Mountain (4100 feet/1250 meters), on the north side of Franconia Notch off I-93 in Franconia Notch State Park (map), is a popular destination for all sorts of outdoor activities.

In spring, summer, and autumn (especially the fall foliage season), visitors take the 70-passenger aerial tramway (cable car) to the summit for the fine views and for short nature walks.

The tramway station is just off I-93, Exit 2, and US 3 north of the Old Man, and has its own parking lot.

It's also possible to hike to the summit over rough but well-marked trails in several hours, either from the base or from the Appalachian Mountain Club mountain hikers' hut at Lonesome Lake.

In winter, Cannon Mountain is a ski area with slopes positioned to receive generous blankets of snow, and a vertical drop of 2145 feet (654 meters). More...
