Newport's historic Brick Market is now occupied by the Museum of Newport History. | ||

On the western side of Washington Square is the Brick Market, a Newport landmark. Designed by Peter Harrison and built in 1762, its name is derived from its use as a market and its brick construction—no bricks were sold here. Having served variously as a town hall, theater, and crafts center, it is now the home of the Museum of Newport History and Museum Shop. The Newport Historical Society, which owns the Brick Market building, museum and shop, also operates excellent walking tours of Newport. The tours depart from the Brick Market building. Brick Market
