New England was founded by the Pilgrims, men and women who escaped the strictures of Reformation Europe to experiment with new religious and societal ideas. They built a new way of life on this continent, but they included in it the things they loved best about the old countries they left behind. But let's start at the beginning, long before any people were here at all: in Pre-historic times. (If you want to go back even farther, see New England Geology). Or here's a quick Timeline from 9000 BC to 1970 AD. Many of American's most prominent and influential people were famous New Englanders. Also see the fascinating New England Facts and Firsts.
