The Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket Steamship Authority operates the car ferries running between Cape Cod and the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket.

New Website Coming Soon! (NETP, 2000 pages) has been online for twenty years (since 2004), and needs a technical upgrade. The NEW NETP—up-to-date, mobile-friendly, and more useful than ever—will be online in autumn 2023.

As always, all research, writing, photography, and web design is done by one person: Tom Brosnahan. That's right: one person, not by an Artificial Intelligence chatbot, but by a real traveler.

Thanks for your patience...        —Tom

The Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket Steamship Authority, commonly called just The Steamship Authority, operates ferryboats on these routes (map):

Woods Hole & Martha's Vineyard

Car and passenger ferries from Woods Hole on Cape Cod to Vineyard Haven or Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard. More...

Hyannis & Nantucket

— Car and passenger ferries from Hyannis to the island of Nantucket. More...

— Passengers-only fast catamaran ferry (no cars) from Hyannis to Nantucket. More...

Car & Passenger Ferries

The car ferries also carry passengers without cars, and passengers with bicycles.

You should have a reservation to ship your car off-season (November through May), and you must have a car reservation in the high-summer months from mid-June through early September.

Car Parking

The Steamship Authority operates large and numerous parking lots in Falmouth and Woods Hole, and in Hyannis, with shuttle buses to take passengers to the docks. You should not try to park elsewhere! If you are not parked legally, your car will be towed away...expensively.

Internet & Radio Alerts

The Steamship Authority posts parking information on its website, and through its smartphone app, a good thing to download and consult before you leave home.

Low-power AM radio stations near the docks communicate current details on ferry departures, arrivals and parking availability to passengers driving to Woods Hole and Hyannis, directing traffic to appropriate lots. The radio frequencies of these stations are displayed prominently on highway approaches to Falmouth, Woods Hole, and the docks.
