Rhode Island has good highway, bus and train connections to New England & New York, and its own international airport serving the entire state and Boston MA as well.

Providence Station
Providence's Amtrak & MBTA train station is just down the hill from the Rhode Island State House.


I-95 goes right through the center of Providence on its way between New York City and Boston. In the center of Providence, I-195 branches off to go through Fall River MA (the turnoff for Newport RI), New Bedford MA, and then on to Cape Cod.

The Peter Pan Bus Intercity Bus Terminal in Providence is north of the center (I-95, Exit 25; map). Peter Pan runs several buses daily to Providence from New York City, Boston MA, Newport RI, Hartford CT, Hyannis (Cape Cod) MA, Springfield MA, and Albany NY. Travel time from New York City is about 4 hours; from Boston or Newport about 1 hour, from Hyannis (Cape Cod) about 1.5 hours. More...

Rhode Island is so compact that one airport handles all the important national flights: it's T F Green International Airport (PVD) in Warwick, just a few miles south of Providence.

The InterLink transit station at 700 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI, adjacent to Interstate 95, is connected by walkway to the airport terminal. InterLink is where you park your car, rent a car or board a RIPTA bus (see below) for destinations in Rhode Island, or an MBTA Commuter Rail Providence/Stoughton Line train for the Massachusetts South Shore and Boston.
